Divergent
The book of divergent is based on a community of five factions, each with a different way of life, which determine certain people's future and personality. The factions include Dauntless, who are fearless, Abnegation, who are selfless, Erudite the faction of knowledge, Candor who always tell the truth and Amity, who are friendly and all about environment. The people who don't belong to just one faction are called Divergent and aren't wanted at all. Tris Prior was one of not many Divergent. When living in the faction life, after turning 16, you have to make a choice of which faction you wish to live in for the rest of your life. This decision was hard for Tris, as on her Aptitude Test (the test in which is supposed to tell you what faction to choose) she was told her results were inconclusive, meaning she received more than one faction that suited her lifestyle. The three factions in which were suited to her were, Dauntless, Erudite and Abnegation. In the choosing ceremony the next day, she then went on to choose Dauntless as her new home and leave Abnegation and her family within, behind her. She moved on, to face the Dauntless Initiation process. This is the gruelling process in which every Dauntless has to go through in order to become a true Dauntless member. Tris struggles at first but with the help of the Dauntless instructor, Four, she improves and passes the first initiation process. Four and Tris start to connect and form a bond with each other. They get closer in the second round of initiation when Tris has to sit through simulations in order to face her worst fears. Four notices that Tris is passing through her fear simulations suspiciously fast and confronts her, asking what she received on her aptitude test. Tris is not allowed to tell him that her test was inconclusive, so she lies and says that she received Abnegation. Other Dauntless initiates, Peter, Al and Drew, were getting threatened by how well Tris was going during the second round and try to push her off of the chasm. Four comes just at the right time to save Tris and takes her back to his room. Four is very protective of Tris and eventually find out she is Divergent as well as himself. The next day, as Al's corpse is bing pulled up by rope, from the pit, Tris blames herself as she said to Al that she never wanted to see him again. A war begins when the Erudite leader, Jeanine works with the Dauntless leaders, to inject a serum into every Dauntless's neck, create an army and overthrow Abnegation. There is a rivalry between Abnegation and Erudite because Erudite wants to be the governing faction instead of Abnegation. This serum was also made to see who the Divergents were, as they would not be affected by the serum. Four is also a Divergent, so they both pretend not to be in order to survive. The whole Dauntless faction is being controlled and are directed to kill all of Abnegation. The Dauntless leaders eventually find out that Four and Tris are divergent and try to kill them. Tris's mother saves her and they both head off to find Four, who had been captured and taken to the head quarters. While fighting of some of the Dauntless soldiers, who had come to Abnegation to kill them, Tris's mother died of a gun shot. When entering the head quarters, Tris's father is also shot and dies. Tris is very upset and determined to get them back for it. Tris enters the head quarters and is confronted by Four, who has been injected by the serum as well, and is trying to kill her. When Tris gets a gun and puts it to her head, Four calms himself down, withholds his anger and instead goes into battle again, with Tris, to try and shut down the simulation. Tris throws a knife at Jeanine's hand, and makes her shut down the simulation. The Dauntless stop trying to kill the Abnegation and Tris, Four, Four's father, Tris's brother and Peter (another Dauntless initiate), get onto a train to head away from the other Dauntless leaders. Tris is very emotional about losing both her parents in the war but Four comports her. They are no longer part of a faction and are practically factionless.
